CraftMap 2008

Bridge Street Studios is to continue the celebrations of its twelfth anniversary with an open studios weekend Saturday 24th May and Sunday 25th May 2008.

The studios will open its doors in conjunction with Craftmark’s Craftmap. Craftmap is a an annual event that combines an ‘Open Studios Weekend’ with the publication of a Guidebook, to help the public find your way around the Art & Design venues and studios.

The Craftmap weekend promises to be a real treat for craft and fine art lovers at Bridge Street Studios. This will give the public a chance to see a variety of talented artists and designer makers creating their work. Whether a potter, felt maker, jeweller or painter, these artists will be on hand to explain how they create their work and you will have the opportunity to quiz them while they make!

Over 30 Artist/Designer/Makers in Counties Armagh, Down, Louth and Monaghan will open their studios to the public. With studios set in some of the most stunning locations across the breadth of this beautiful area, the CRAFT MAP ‘Open Studios Weekend’ is the ideal opportunity to travel and explore the varied landscape, heritage, scenery and culture offered in the region. To this end and to ensure that you are refreshed to continue your studio visits, participants have recommended places of interest and suggested venues to stop for something to eat and drink in the accompanying CRAFT MAP 2008 Guidebook.

You can pick up a copy of the CRAFT MAP 2008 Guidebook at your local Tourist Information Centre or Arts Centre in Counties Armagh, Down, Louth and Monaghan and Belfast. CRAFT MAP 2008 can also be viewed online at http://www.craftmark.ie

The guide book contains contact details for the Artists and designer/makers in the north east area.

If you would like to come along to Bridge Street this weekend, please see here for directions to the studio.

Louth Craftmark Steps Out in Style for Gala Fashion Extravaganza

Louth Craftmark; the leading craft retail outlet store in the North East showcasing the collective work of talented Louth designers and makers, is delighted to announce details of its first major gala fashion show taking place at The Highlanes Gallery in Drogheda on October 1st 2007. The event coincides with the store's first birthday and promises an exciting evening of glamorous fashion and delightful entertainment to include an inspiring display of the latest craft, jewellery, fashion designs and home accessories. This fashion show highlights once again the continued contribution that Louth Craftmark is making to the regional and national craft industry in Ireland, a performance that has been well supported by both novice and expert craft and fashion lovers over the past year.

Jewellery, millinery, bags, woollens, headgear and other fashion accessories made by over forty local designers will be showcased as part of Drogheda's 2007 fashion extravaganza of the year. Moreover the work of several of Ireland's most exciting nouveau designers will be on display to include Aideen Bodkin, Eilis Boyle, Caoimhe O' Dwyer, Michelle McCarroll, Maria Cardenas, Edmund McNulty, and Jennifer Rothwell, winner of the 2007 Brown Thomas Designer mentor programme award.

Fittingly, the show will take place on the ground floor of the Highlanes Gallery, a converted Franciscan Church with a capacity for 300 people. It will be a charity event, with the proceeds going to a very worthy cause; the
Rape Crisis Centre in Dundalk.

Ciara McFeeley, Retail Manager for Louth Craftmark explains "This Gala Fashion event solidifies the close relationship that exists between the arts and crafts sectors, we are very grateful to the Gallery at Highlanes for giving us access to this special venue. It gives us the perfect opportunity to celebrate together what can only be described as a remarkable year for the craft industry in Louth", says Ciara.

The show will include specific fashion and craft components in order to ensure that craft discipline has the opportunity to showcase its wares to all attendees. No fashion show would be complete without a raffle and the sponsors and organizers have planned for an array of exclusive raffle prizes which will reflect the creative talents of the designers and makers of Louth Craftmark. Following the show, there will be a wine reception.

Tickets for the event are on sale at the Louth Craftmark store for 35 euro
or feel free to email shop@louthcraftmark.com.

Platform 10

For the first time, the artists of Bridge Street Studios are bringing their individualistic art into the Louth County Museum. Although there are yearly exhibitions in the Studio itself, it is due to phenomenal demand that a bigger venue is required, much to the delight of their regular visitors. The artists on display in the exhibition, aptly named Platform 10, are Joanne McKenna, Gillian Callan, Sarah McKenna, Frances Lambe, Fiona Thornton, Fiona Quigley, Louisa Goss, Ciara Agnew, John O'Connor and Paola Catizone. As their first exhibition out of the confines of the Studio, they are maximizing all available space. This large scope has inspired the artists to expand their work, investigating unusual ways to display their pieces.

These up-and-coming artists, who earned themselves a place in the top 100 Irish Designers in ?House and Home? magazine, are putting on an exhibition that is promising to be insightful, exciting and ground-breaking.

The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday 5th to Saturday 13th November. The opening times of the museum are Tuesday to Saturday, 10.30am to 5.30pm and Sunday, 2pm to 5.30pm.

Truly an experience not to be missed!
