Michele Haechler

Painter Michele Haechler's interests lie in abstract forms and colours. Her use of lustres allow the painting to evolve in the changing light, so what the viewer may see in the morning light will differ by evening. The shimmering quality evokes the spiritual senses of the audience. This process reflects the themes by revealing and concealing ambiguous shapes and by allowing the bright colours to come through the layer of more somber shades. "Take from it what you see" says Michelle.....[read more]

Frances Lambe

The Chinese define the five elements of nature as Sea, Forest, Fire, Earth and Sky. Frances Lambe is fascinated by the visual interconnections between these disparate realms, where planets look like seeds and seeds can mimic plankton. Lambe combines a number of visual references into each of her abstract pieces.

Lambe's sculptural forms are hand-built using different clays, which vary in colour and texture. The clay is generally left unglazed, except for the occasional application of oxides.

The work is abstract and ambiguous.....[read more]

Orla Barry

My work is self-representational. By combining imagery from my dreams, reality and fantasies I hope to communicate the fragmented nature of identity. Different images have various meanings in a kind of personal symbolism. In this way my work is intended to reflect both the light and dark sides of self; exploring inner versus outer reality without ever using images of my physical self.....[read more]

Sinead McInerney

Local metal work artist Sinead McInerney graduated with a degree in metalwork and jewellery. She works primarily with copper which comes mainly from salvage. She believes in letting the metal speak for itself. A newcomer to the studios, watch out for future work from this exciting artist.....[read more]

John O Connor

Painter, John 0'Connor, bases his work on a town land in Sligo called Ummeryroe. Old farm equipment, potato sprayers, pitch forks, have all been starting points for paintings. The landscape and bogland have also given him inspiration for work. He paints directly from the landscape and also works on paintings in the studio which are larger in scale. These paintings are more experimental as paint is allowed to flow and drip. "I find this accident and layering corresponds with the natural wetlands that I am attracted to," says John.....[read more]

Ciara Agnew

My objective is to explore our relationship to the world that surrounds us, both physically and spiritually, through horizontal and vertical strips and blocks of colour, which are all around us. Some edges have a blurred or indefinite quality and others are left straight. I want to create tension between the two as I feel when something is imperfect there is more truth in it, more expression.....[read more]

Joanne McKenna

Ceramic artist Joanne McKenna studied at Limerick College of Art and Design before returning to her native Dundalk, where she became a founding member of the visual artists' workshop "Bridge Street Studios". Joanne is perhaps best known for her exciting designs, drawing inspiration from architecture. Her recent work is minimal and subtle in style, creating simple forms in white with the touch of juicy colour. This new work is designed and styled to fit with contemporary interiors and draws influence from a visit to Valencia.....[read more]

Gillian Black

I want to create and articulate a vision. To passionately own the vision and to relentlessly drive it to completion. To create art that integrates emerging ideas as well as traditional ones. Creating pieces of artwork that portray emotions and personality. To help grow appreciation of artists, works of art and development of the arts in the community. Offering a platform for discussion both scholarly and informally. To maintain honesty and frankness in all interactions, with everyone, regardless of their predispositions.....[read more]

Sarah McKenna

Sarah McKenna has been developing her unique ceramic forms at Bridge Street Studios since 1999. She studied Ceramics at Duncan of Jordonstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee, Scotland, were she gained a Bachelor of Ceramic Design. Sarah's work has a deep connection with the natural world, in particular the rhythmic sequence of shapes in seashells, leaves, flowers and seed pods. This connection is also reflected in the surface pattern, which mirrors the pattern formed organically by glaze or smoke.....[read more]

Rachel Tinniswood

The work of textile artist Rachel Tinniswood reflects the surrounding landscape in which she lives. Her organic felt forms are in response to the shapes and patterns of pebbles and shells discovered on the beach. She combines different types of wool fibres and other materials to create pattern and texture. Her 2 dimensional work often combines had made felt along side hand made paper creating multi-layered pieces.....[read more]

Fiona Thornton

Fiona's jewellery always has an eye on the fashion trends and colours, however, the shapes and designs are a little less fleeting and a little more elegant and timeless, regardless of colour. Basic shapes appeal to Fiona's sense of proportion and a lot of the designs feed into each other.

She worked with silver while at college and has been experimenting with Perspex, resins and enamels and methods of colouring these materials since.....[read more]
