Orla Barry is an artist and designer based in Bridge Street Studios, Dundalk. She graduated with an honours degree in Fine Art from Dublin Institute of Technology in 2007.
Orla is a painter and regularly exhibits her paintings throughout Ireland. She has completed residencies at the Cill Rialaig Project, Kerry, Nes Artist Residency, Skagaströnd, Iceland and Camino Artes, Spain. Most recently she was awarded the Tyrone Guthrie Centre Regional Bursary for a two week stay in 2014 by Dundalk Town Council. One of her paintings is also held in the Dundalk Town Council collection.
Her Wearable Art brooches, started in 2013, are hand painted with acrylics on laser cut wood. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind miniature painting, decorated with paper decoupage and metal foils and coated with a protective seal of varnish. They are stocked in shops around the country. Orla’s work is inspired by spiritual symbolism, mysticism, surrealism, fairytales, patterns and a search for perfect colour combinations.
